Natural disasters are inevitable- whether brought on by climate change, sea level rise, extreme storms, or life-threatening heat waves. Florida’s housing providers have done a superb job of creating homeowner rehab programs and requiring new development to feature advanced construction or green building principles. But we have only touched the tip of the iceberg. Florida’s housing stock for lower-income and vulnerable populations is at risk of damage or destruction. This webinar will cover the waterfront (pun intended) on methods to assess risk and design mitigation programs to meet the needs of your community’s housing stock. Learn the Florida Housing Coalition’s 7 Principles of Mitigation and explore the wide variety of funding sources available to not just rehab homes, but to fortify them to withstand natural disasters and even allow residents to shelter in place if advised by emergency officials. We will review online mapping tools to help identify homes and properties’ level of exposure to coastal hazards to help target the neighborhoods most in need of mitigation. This webinar will give an overview of the Keep Safe Miami Guide to construction and rehab in tropical climes, the authoritative encyclopedia produced by Enterprise Community Partners. Join this webinar and be prepared to build and fortify your housing resilience strategies.
