Federal investments in housing provide an opportunity for local governments to augment local and state resources to target investments to individuals and communities most in need, including often-excluded populations and historically disinvested neighborhoods.
If you are one of Florida’s 88 federal entitlement communities, the Florida Housing Coalition team is here to help you take both an innovative and asset-based approach to planning as a tool for equitably allocating resources to effect positive housing and economic outcomes.
Our Expertise
- Consolidated Planning: To continue the flow of HUD funding to our community partners, we collaborate to prepare required Consolidated Plans and Action Plans. We use intentional planning methods to ensure compliance with federal regulations while providing a product that supports data-driven solutions.
- Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH): Supporting commitment to fair housing practices, we develop Housing Equity Plans that meet AFFH obligations. Our plans offer a deeper understanding of how fair housing issues impact communities, while providing solutions that promote equitable housing choice.
- Community Needs Assessments: Assisting Community Action Agencies meet state regulations for the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program, we prepare Community Needs Assessments (CNA). These comprehensive assessments identify the underlying causes and conditions of poverty and recommend poverty reduction strategies.
- Equitable Homeownership: Encouraging communities to invest in homeownership for racial/ethnic minority populations, we use data storytelling to create Closing the Gap Equity Profiles. These profiles identify historical patterns of discrimination and present strategies for furthering racial equity efforts, specifically for homeownership.
- Accessible Engagement in Housing Planning: To represent the housing needs of individuals with disabilities, we advocate for increasing participation in community-based planning efforts. Our online suite features education and tools on inclusive planning and effectively engaging individuals with disabilities.
