Sadowski Coalition Statement on Governor DeSantis Recommending $423.3 Million for Affordable Housing Programs in Proposed Budget

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Sadowski Coalition – a nonpartisan collection of more than 30 statewide organizations – today released the following statement, attributed to Jaimie Ross, facilitator of the Sadowski Coalition and president of the Florida Housing Coalition, on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021-2022.

“The Sadowski Coalition thanks Governor DeSantis for recommending $423.3 million for Florida’s state and local housing programs in his budget. Florida has the best housing programs in the nation to address the housing crisis.

“This money is needed to repair and produce housing that is desperately needed by Florida’s essential workforce and most vulnerable residents. It is needed to help Florida families to become homeowners at a time when interest rates are low. And it is needed for households that cannot pay rent or make mortgage payments due to the COVID crisis and do not qualify for the restrictive federal assistance.

“In addition to helping our state with its housing crisis, these funds are highly leveraged by the private sector, resulting in billions in positive economic benefit for our state.

“The Governor recognizes the integral role the Sadowski trust fund plays in Florida, and we appreciate his continued leadership and support for affordable housing.”
