Florida’s Live Local Act in 2023 provided a variety of tools aimed at encouraging and facilitating much-needed affordable housing development statewide. These 90-minute regional workshops, sponsored by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation through the state’s Affordable Housing Catalyst Program, are geared toward local government staff to share best practices, experiences, and lessons learned to date on implementation of Live Local. Topics for this workshop will include Florida’s surplus lands laws as amended by the LLA, property tax exemptions for affordable housing, funding, serving special needs populations, and the LLA’s land use provisions.
Local housing and planning staff are encouraged to attend to learn best practices for implementation, to brainstorm how to tie Live Local tools with existing local housing initiatives, and to generate regional approaches to affordable housing policy.
