SUMMARY:Using Surplus Lands for Affordable Housing
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nThere is a wide disparity between how local governments are implementing the surplus lands law.  Some local governments have enormous numbers of property in their inventory available for affordable housing but are stymied in terms of understanding the next steps for disposition. Some local governments are inclined to avoid the law and sell surplus property to use the funds for general revenue.  This training will provide best practices to local governments\, nonprofits\, and local advocates to improve the local process for disposing of surplus lands for the benefit of affordable housing.

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nThis webinar was formerly titled ‘SHIP Rental Assistance After the State of Emergency’. It will distinguish between rent assistance after a disaster and during blue sky times\, including income determination and the selection and prioritization of eligible beneficiaries. Participants will learn about SHIP rent policy for rent deposits\, rent subsidies\, eviction prevention\, and disaster assistance. Presenters will address a variety of rent assistance resources to help participants identify when it is most effective to use SHIP. Learn how to coordinate SHIP assistance with other assistance providers and how to determine the portion of SHIP funds that may be available for a rental assistance strategy before and in response to a disaster.
